About Simple Livestock

What we do

Simple Livestock is the ultimate resource for regenerative ranching. Our platform connects you with leading ranches practicing sustainable methods, providing exclusive insights through in-depth interviews with top land managers. Discover the leaders in regenerative ranching and learn about the dedicated individuals who manage these complex ecosystems.

Our Story

Simple Livestock is designed and developed by Walker Milhoan, a rancher and web developer based in Bozeman, Montana, and a 2011 graduate of TCU Ranch Management. This is the third iteration of the platform:

  • v1: An attempt to develop grazing software with the IX Ranch in Big Sandy, Montana. It failed because it was too far ahead of its time: ranchers didn’t understand the tech, and the tech and money people didn’t understand the ranch.
  • v2: An attempt to develop a mobile app for livestock marketing, which ultimately failed due to lack of demand and no way to verify sellers' credit.

Evolution to Simple Livestock 3.0

Throughout these attempts, Simple accumulated a lot of valuable data. That data has culminated in Simple Livestock 3.0, offering a robust and refined platform for the regenerative ranching community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support regenerative ranching by providing a platform that connects ranchers, shares valuable insights, and promotes sustainable practices. We aim to empower ranchers with the knowledge and tools they need to manage their ecosystems effectively and to share their stories with the world.

Join us on our journey to revolutionize regenerative ranching.

About Walker Milhoan

Walker Milhoan, founder of Simple Livestock, brings over 20 years of ranching experience and a deep understanding of sustainable practices. He graduated from TCU Ranch Management in 2011 and later attended the University of Montana, where he studied Management Information Systems. A self-taught Webflow, Airtable, and Notion database developer, Walker has a diverse skill set that bridges traditional ranching with modern technology.

In 2014, he spent three months in Ghana, Africa researching the beef production chain, and later that year, he attempted to develop a grazing software with the IX Ranch of Big Sandy, MT. Despite the project's failure, it marked his commitment to innovation. In 2020, he tried to launch a mobile app for cattle marketing, which also faced setbacks due to funding and sales challenges.

Walker’s practical experience includes managing 700+ bred heifers in 2023, an endeavor he documented on Instagram, achieving significant engagement with a top post reaching 730,000 views. In 2024, he continued to enhance his expertise by working for a progressive yearling operation in Montana that practices regenerative grazing. Walker's journey reflects his resilience and dedication to advancing the ranching industry through sustainable methods and technological integration.
